These three letters have started to pop up everywhere the last few years, from massage oils to Carl’s Jr Sandwiches. But do you really know what it is? Do you know what it does? And do you know if it’s right for you? Despite being regular users of CBD, we didn’t always know the answers to these questions. Once we did, we wanted to share the knowledge with everyone, which led us to starting Cure Crate – and it’s those questions we have tried our best to answer below.
In your first Cure Crate you’ll find our Welcome Book which contains all of this information (plus a bit more). This will be a handy guide as you explore the many benefits CBD has to offer with Cure Crate.
With love and care,
the Cure Crate Team
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol. It is a compound that naturally occurs in the cannabis plant along with over 100 others.
CBD and THC are both active cannabinoids in the cannabis plant (2 of over 113 discovered!) They actually have the exact same chemical makeup, except for the arrangement of one single atom. That tiny difference changes the way that each interacts with the body. THC binds to CB1 neuroreceptors which are concentrated in areas of the brain associated with pleasure, thinking, memory, coordination, and time perception. This creates a reaction that sends signals to the brain causing that psychoactive feeling of getting high. CBD is actually an antagonist to CB1 receptors, meaning not only does it not cause these psychoactive effects but it can even reduce them.
Absolutely not. Unlike THC, that other famous cannabinoid, CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive properties. This is because it binds to different neuroreceptors and does not send mind-altering signals to the brain in the way that THC does. You will most notably feel more relaxed, but not “high”
So were we! That’s why we started Cure Crate. So, everything we are talking about comes from one plant: Cannabis. Weed is a slang term for cannabis plants that contain the psychoactive compound THC, while hemp is a cannabis plant that has no more than 0.3% THC. All cannabis plants contain CBD, but Cure Crate products are sourced from industrial hemp strains where little to no THC is present.
CBD has been used to treat anxiety and depression, improve the quality of sleep, promote skin health, and reduce pain and inflammation. CBD is prescribed by physicians for currently being neurological disorders like epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. As a reminder, you should consult a medical professional to diagnose or treat any ailments.
CBD stimulates the parts of our brain that regulate a variety of functions. Scientifically speaking – Cannabinoids interact with our bodies’ endocannabinoid system, which contains different neuroreceptors that affect physiological functions like sleep, appetite, mood, pain perception, memory and inflammation. CBD activates them to produce medically beneficial and therapeutic effects.
Yes – Cannabis has been used therapeutically for over half a century. However, since Hemp has faced legal restrictions until recently we still need to increase research and make sure the products are high-quality! There is evidence that suggests CBD can improve the quality of life by improving sleep, managing anxiety and reducing chronic pain, especially with individuals for whom conventional treatments have failed. The main risk is that it is under-regulated, and many marketing claims have not been scientifically proven. However, at Cure Crate we require all of our products through rigorous lab testing on top of what’s mandated by law. We only put stuff in your crate that we’ve tried ourselves (and we are pretty snobby when it comes to CBD.)
Depending where you live. Cure Crate only ships to the US and Canada currently where CBD is legal provided it’s hemp-derived and contains less than 0.3% THC. All of Cure Crate’s products are lab-tested to ensure potency and legality. CBD is generally legal in North America, EU, and parts of South America. However these regulations vary greatly. To be legal in most places, CBD must be hemp-derived contain a minimal amount of THC– anywhere from 0% THC in Japan to 0.2% in the UK and up to 0.3% in the US.
Cure Crate only sells third-party tested and top-rated products. With other CBD retailers or subscription services it is hard to determine a variety of factors that greatly contribute to product efficacy and safety. With our third-party lab tested products and money back guarantee our customer’s can have peace of mind that they’ll receive products they love, and that work.
CBD can be taken in all sorts of ways. The most common are oil-based tinctures, pills or capsules, edibles, beverages, and. smoking or vaping. If you want to apply CBD locally, there are topical treatments such as creams, serums, sprays, and salves. You can see all the different CBD products out there on our Instagram @CureCrate.
Anyone 18 and over can use CBD! Your anxious sibling, arthritic grandma, and high-strung mother-in-law will all benefit from CBD. Older generations have a growing interest in CBD for its anti-inflammatory benefits and lack of intoxicating effects, with one study finding 60% of seniors who use it do so for pain relief. As always, definitely consult a health professional before using any new supplement like CBD.
Just like yourself, please consult a professional before giving your furry friend any supplements! We have some vet friends who sell CBD at their clinics, but just like you are unique, each pup is unique too and you should consult with your vet. Once you decide to let your pup share in the wellness, let us know and we’ll throw some treats into your crate! Our dogs can vouch for them - especially during thunderstorms!
